Understanding Your Child's Score

Achievement Levels All FAST and EOC scores are reported on a scale of 1 to 5:

Level  What It Means
Level 1  Inadequate – significantly below grade level
Level 2 Below Satisfactory – approaching grade level
Level 3 Satisfactory – On grade level
Level 4 Proficient – Above grade level
Level 5 Mastery – Well above grade level

Level 3 is the target. It indicates that a student is meeting grade-level expectations.

A note about PM1 and PM2 scores: Don't be alarmed if your child's score from the first or second test seems lower than expected. Because PM1 is given at the very start of the year, students haven't yet learned all the material that will eventually be tested. PM1 and PM2 scores are for informational purposes — they help teachers identify areas to focus on, but they are not a final judgment of your child's achievement.

What's included in the score report:

  • Scale Score — a numerical score on the B.E.S.T. scale
  • Achievement Level (1–5) — how the score compares to grade-level expectations
  • Percentile Rank — how your student's score compares to other students statewide
  • Score Comparison — shows how your student performed compared to peers at the school, district, and state level
  • Performance by Reporting Category — breaks down strengths and areas for growth by topic
