Assessments at FMS
Middle school students at Fairview participate in the following statewide assessments:
FAST ELA Reading (Grades 6–8) Measures reading skills aligned to Florida's B.E.S.T. (Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking) Standards. Administered three times per year.
FAST Mathematics (Grades 6–8) Measures math skills aligned to B.E.S.T. Standards. Administered three times per year. Students in Grades 6–8 use an on-screen calculator provided in the testing platform, and scratch paper is provided for all math tests.
Grade 8 Science — Statewide Science Assessment Measures student mastery of Florida's science standards. This is a summative test given once, during the Spring testing window only.
End-of-Course (EOC) Assessments: Students enrolled in specific courses will take an EOC instead of (or in addition to) FAST for that subject. Middle school EOCs include:
- Algebra 1 EOC
- Geometry EOC
- Civics EOC
- Biology EOC
Note: Students enrolled in a course with an EOC assessment will take the EOC rather than the FAST progress monitoring tests for that subject, specifically for math and science.
